riving knife
Does any know of a retrofit one can use to add a riving knife to an old Craftsman table saw? Checked with Sears repair parts and it is no longer available. I bought this saw from Craigslist and the hardware to install it was also missing. Thought Sears may be able to help. No luck. Don't particularly want to use a splitter.
Saw model is 137.221960. Made in 1998. Love it but want to be safe.
Thanks to all.

I don't know your table saw but generally there is no straight forward way to convert an old splitter style saw to a rise and fall riving knife. Changing to a riving knife needs an attachment to the rising and falling arbor, while the slitter is fixed to the part of the internals that just tilts but doesn't go up and down.

From your post, it sounds like one used to be available, in which case it should be possible to fabricate one.
I made a riving knife for my table saw from an old saw blade which I cut out with an angle grinder (sounds rough, but it really looks quite professional), it was quite easy as the mounting brackets were already there.
I am not familiar with your saw, but I can't imagine it would be that difficult to build one. Of course that would on your experience in doing such things and what equipment, machines etc you have available to do the job.Regards

I've cut a couple of replacement splitters of varying shapes and heights out of an old saw blade which I swap over as suites things I'm working on, but they are not the same as a true riving knife which stays close to the blade at all blade heights and rises and falls with the blade.
The closest thing I've seen to a conversion is the Bork which says it is not suitable for contractor style saws but may be suitable for some other Craftsman models.
Cheers,Franklin
