employed a carpenter yrs ago and because we needed them got him to make a pair of sawstools. he did a teriffic job. The next day while cutting up sheet ply he cut a stool lengthwise down the middle thru 2 bolts. He looked surprised when the stool collapsed.
Don't force it, use a bigger hammer.

Timber is what you use. Wood is what you burn.

It is a good way of venting and getting it out of your system on telling people about the stuff ups.

    Man I feel your pain.

5 years ago I had a 350m2 workshop with an Altendorf F90 with custom extended slide, plus 4 sided planer, wide sander, 20" thicknesser.... .( hang on, something in my eye...)

I used to knock up oak staircases in a couple of days....

But having given all that up to move to Oz, I'm now in my garage struggling to make a sodding tool box on a heap of **** called 12" cabinet saw from hare & Forbes. I used to love my job, but as a hobby on this kit, it's pain.

The saw has got to go, as does the bandsaw that sounds and runs like a cement mixer.

I remember when I would just pop in the shop on a Saturday and knock up a table for a relative........

I'm going to go and hug my festool router.....

I can't even count the amount of times I've cut some exactly 100mm short!

Danny I think we have all done that a few times.

When I use a tape measure - the little hook on the end slides to allow for internal or external measurements to compensate for the thickness of the hook.

When looking for accuracy with the tape - rather than rely on the hook slide which over time the slide rivets elongate etc, I measure from the 100mm mark... and just "remember" to subtract 100mm from my reading.... cept sometimes I forget!

I guess it's early onset alzheimers or something.

Believe me we all do it...

It's easy to go from hand tools only, to crappy machinery, impossible to go from good machines to crapola. I sure wouldn't want to try it.

We all make silly mistakes. I tend to be quite slow with woodwork because I try to avoid rushing and making these silly mistakes. And it doesn't make any difference - I still make them. But giving up? Never!

    Never give up.
