Routing a square hole on angle
Hi WWF,
I was wondering if there was any advice out there on the best way to route a square hole on a 10 degree angle?
I am using a Festool MFS400 system with a spiral up cut bit and can route the perfectly sized square hole in some 45mm American Oak however, I need to route the same hole on an angle. Is it as simple as putting some wedges under one side of the MFS and route as per normal?

Well I gave it a go. I placed a strip of timber under one side and clamped the MFS down. It took a couple of goes to get the right angle but eventually I found a timber strip just the right width.
I was initially concerned that the router bit was not long enough to route the whole way through and while it wasn’t long enough it turns out that by only routing half way, I get a much more professional result.

Just a dumb thought here.
Wouldn't it be easier to cut the tenon on the 10° angle? When I made some dining chairs, they were designed with a 7° splay angle on each side of the seat. I thought about how to cut the joints for almost a year before I decided on the angled tenons.

I just love the MFS. I damaged mine thru stupidity (forgot to put the copy ring back and spiral bits just love aluminium). Bought another set so now have some spares.
Just remember that you can use the brackets as an indexing stop to then also get the same angles each time.
Regards
Les
