That’s certainly a possibility but would need a smaller mesh as these slippery, persistent suckers easily get into a fully screened house and doors. They are smart enough to stay off the window sills and soffits during the day as the kookaburras, butcher birds and magpies would soon clear up the problem. I can’t verify if they have any form of toxicity but I have observed our green frogs totally ignoring them.

Gday Bob, i dont know your unit specifically, but for some of our customers we were able to install longer ‘legs’ for the PCB’s to sit on (available at jaycar and the like), so that when gecko’s get in between they don’t short out straight away. We have also used commercially available spray on coatings, like CRC plasticote 70 to spray on the PCB’s in an effort to insulate the terminals pins without effecting heat transfer.

I can’t provide quantifiable data as to the effect but we seem to have less calls to those sites so treated.

Daikin are leading the way with this, their new units have a silicone coating over the terminal pins on the entire PCB. I’m yet to replace on due to gecko’s. Hopefully the other manufacturers get on board.

What about making up a jacket of open-weave shade cloth?

Thanks for that info, it’s the sort of thing I’m looking for.

Our 2 AC units are Fujitsu and they are linked to ceiling cassettes, 1 in the lounge and 1 in the rumpus room. Both are identical, cooling 7050W and heating 8000W. They are both high mounted on wall brackets approx 200mm under the soffits. We figured they would be well out of the weather and “foreign” objects like snakes etc would find it very difficult.

I will check out the plasticote and discuss it with my AC repair man especially as the other unit will also have an exposed board.
    Regards,
    Bob
