Default SANDPAPER -GARBAGE ,or is it me

I went to Bunnings and got a couple of rolls of the "No Clog" sand paper.

I don't know if it just me or what ,but this stuff doesn't last at all.
I am sanding some stained pine table legs and I just seem to be changing it all the time.

I have tried to get hold of some other better known brands (norton etc) but none of the hardwares I have been too sell them, its all Prager etc.

Look forward to your comments .

    Regards

    Greg

I gave up with the hardware stores, you're right they only carry crap.

    Try The Sandpaper Man

What Ross said. The stuff from Bunnings is rubbish with sparse abrasive and poor adhesive, and they sell it at a high price. Buy it from the Sandpaper man. Quick service, good quality, less expensive and a bigger range.

Put some Prager paper on the 1/2 sheet rough sander and it lasted exactly 2 seconds, literaly, white paper was all that remained.

If hand sanding get the 3M handsanding paper, expensive but the best sandpaper you will ever use.

What Alex said! And the Sandpaper Man posts it out very quickly, too! They also have a great range!
It seems to me that it just isn't worth putting in all that work and then try and finish it with crummy sandpaper! Buy it and use it as if someone else was paying! The more expensive sandpapers end up more economical in the long run!
    Cheers,
    Steck

My local bunnies stocks Norton papers for my ROS but The Sandpaper Man sells them cheaper (even with delivery), has a far wider range of grits and sponsors part of WWF to boot.

In summary: Bunnings sucks, TSM is awesome.

If you have time check out some weekend type markets, occasionally there might be some hardware type stuff for sale. I picked up an 'end of roll' cloth backed sandpaper for about $4.00 a few years ago. It measured 2 mts x 1 mt and still have half of it left!

Hermes is the best paper I've used by a factor of about ten! The Sandpaper Man carries some Hermes stuff from memory, but unfortunately, not flat sheets.

Does anyone know of an Australian stockist of Hermes sheets? I would happily pay four to five times the price of its nearest competitor because it lasts an incredible length of time.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

What Ross, AlexS and Steck wrote.

My last order was 100 sheets of each of grits from 240 to 1500 for my ROS. My order arrived in 3 days and I can't fault the service or the product.
I make things, I just take a long time.

I notice that The Sandpaper Man has the Hermes cloth backed stuff in roll form - the 100mm wide would suit hand sanding blocks just fine.

Might get myself a couple of meters of this in grits from 240-400, just to see how long it lasts.

I know what you mean about the Prager crap - still have some packs in my drawer, and once its gone I'll never buy abrasives at Bunnies again...... They appear to use flour+water as the binding agent holding the abrasive to the backing !

I agree with the rest on the Sandpaper Man. I got about a years supply of sheet stuff for turning and general use. Next time I will also get some discs and belts for the sanders.
The rolls of paper at the big shed are far from the best. The sheet stuff they have is ok but expensive.

Gee I am an idiot! I got some Micro Mesh from the Sandpaper Man a while ago, and I never even thought about getting this paper off him.

At least I know know its not just me! How do these people getaway with selling all this junk?

I should contact the manufacturer (Praga) and let them know that the stuff is S__t.

Anyway,I have now placed my order with the Sandpaper Man -And it has to be a lot cheaper than using the rubbish from bloody Bunnings.(and other hardware stores)!

    Thanks for the replies.

    Cheers

    Greg

I think Lincoln Sentry sell Hermes, their website says 3m but last time I bought paper and sponges from them they were Hermes and they said they had switched. Admittedly this is a while back, so they might have switched again!

I'm very fond of SIA SIAFast paper, I think it's similar to that ridiculously expensive 3M Sandblaster stuff you can get at Bunnings, but at around 80c a sheet (IIRC.)
