the secret project ... near the end of the journey
Late last year underfoot told the forum about some timber for sale near Coffs Harbour, NSW, and that was the start of a long journey. Wheelinround and I bought some Australian Red Cedar from Nev and I have been quietly turning my timber, and then wheelin's as well, into a surprise piece of furniture for each of my 3 daughters. I have had to keep it off the forum because my daughters have been known to lurk on the forum to find out what Dad is up to. Having been given a promise that, this time, they will NOT peek, I thought I would post a few pics tonight because I reached a significant milestone today .... and I have to tell someone!
I am making 3 dropside elliptical tables of my own design and, today, the (hopefully) last coat of WOP was applied, the table tops were assembled and, for the first time, all 3 tables were standing, finished, on their own legs. I still have to finish the 6 curved front drawers and that will take another few weeks.
I was taking WIP pics but, given woodwould's recent stunning magnum opus, my WIP may remain an unread relic! One interesting part of the WIP was a most interesting finishing recipe that few people will want to repeat. I first finished each assembly with a coat of boiled linseed oil and, as my shed is small, I then stacked them all outside. The unique part of the finish then involved the local horses coming up from the paddock and licking the oil off!

The secrets out at last ................thank goodness you wanted to tell someone who am I
Imagine how I felt I've known since you sorry I bought the timber.
Then slowly I get updates, then photo updates.
I could have told but
Alan they look brilliant I am sure they will be treasured for many years to come.
6 knobs give me a size, drawing and I'll get them started.

They look stunning, can I have a lend of one of your horses? You were telling us about these at the show Friday, fantastic job, the girls will be thrilled with them. And great design.

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Hi Fletty
That is stunning!!!
Oh what wonderful timber, and your workmanship is equal to it.
Please post details of your build if you can, such as the construction of the rule joints.
If we competed with WW, none of us would post anything anymore, so just do it. We'll start our own league, how about that?!

Wot they all sed - lovely job, nice wood.
But Fletty, and the rest of you, please don't make a habit of feeding horses with BLO - if you read the label, it does say 'not for medicinal use'! BLO usually contains heavy metal driers which aren't too good for Neddy. The small amount they would have ingested buffing your tables is very unlikely to have done any harm, but I wouldn't persist.......
Cheers,IW
