Serious wood working problem-help!
I have a very serious problem which has slowly crept up on me since the start of the year, but especially in recent times. You see I have been spending much time and money at various tool suppliers and now have really good quality planes and saws etc. All good you might think. But you would be wrong. For years I was always able to drag up the handy old excuse for bad workmanship
"Its the tools you see. If only I had a better .....(saw, plane, sharpening stone etc)"
Now what am I going to do?My age is still less than my number of posts

I think your problem is blunt tools......you need a tormek to sharpen them also you strong is your bench/ vice? you may have to replace them...Dust extraction???..dust may be getting in the way of your cuts

I have the same issue , only now I am trying to improve my workmanship.
I have just built a radio bench for a friend (ham radio) , and it doesn't look too bad.
, now the swmbo has asked me to make a set of shelves for her art room, and I have 2 entertainment units to build ,.,
You will just have to do what I am , and keep working to attain a better standard of finish.

Hello Chook. Do not know if you are having a joke with us all.
What exactly is the problem?
May I offer the following suggestions anyway?
Have you had your eye sight checked lately?
Are you using good plans for your projects? Don't know your level of experience but how about joining a Mens Shed where you could get some guidance.
Are you planing with the grain? How are you doing your sharpening now? Are you using a diamond stone?

I share your pain. In my case, SWMBO thinks that I can conjure up anything that her heart desires because I have a handsaw, hammer, a few chisels and a chainsaw.
Since I am part of the H&S group buy, it looks as though I will have to actually produce something apart from sawdust!
