    Default SHARP BLADES

I have been doing a couple of projects and decided it was time to sharpen the saw blades.

When I bought my Jet tablesaw I bought a box of 3 Avenger blades with it.Finally three were reached
a stage of bluntness that was unbearable.

I took them to the fellow in Hervey Bay and had the lot sharpened. He engraved the details on each blade
so that next time this can be used as his reference. Good thinking!

What a difference! The blades even sound different when not cutting!!

Yep, sharpening TS (or any other) blades makes a big difference. What blades do you have? I presume a rip and a crosscut, what's the 3rd?

Atrme, one of the problems I had when I first started using carbide-tipped blades (& still have!) is knowing when they are past it. The old steel blades dulled fast, & you knew it. But a carbide blade's performance gradually wanes 'til one day you realise you are putting more effort into pushing the wood through the saw than the motor is putting into the saw! The light finally comes on, at that point (yes, I can be a bit slow, sometimes ), so I put on a new blade. The wood practically falls through the saw, and I kick myself & swear I will never let that happen again. A month or two later, the exact same scene is played out.......

    Does that sound familiar?

    Cheers,
    IW

Alex you are right. The third is a fine tooth blade.

    Ian that sounds very familiar!

Hi Artme, may I ask how much it cost to get your three blades sharpened and how many teeth on each blade? My crosscut blade needs doing - it's got to the point of melting its path through the wood 8-) yeah
    I know - it's been overdue for a while.

I'd have to count teeth but the fine tooth is 60 teeth and the others somewhat less.

Cost $63 for all three. Darned cheap!

    Hi Guy's,
Another comparison for AdamAnt my 96 tooth 305mm blade costs about $23 dollars to get sharpened here in Gympie the 60 and 40 are not much different so approximately $20 a blade.
    Regards Rod.

It's worth checking,I have bought blades(good brand) for myself and my son cheaper than I could have them sharpened, particulally when they are 60 or 80 teeth and they charge by the tooth.

Yeah that's what I figured- Makita 235mm combo blade @ $30 or so new is not prob not worth sharpening , but next size up would be and makes investment in quality larger blades viable

Get mine sharpened at Harwoods saw service in Bundaberg. In the past have used W&W courier service ($5 up and $5 back to Maryborough) to get them there -they also do TC router bits and will do teeth replacements on saw blades if necessary. Ensure that your blades are stack packed with ply spacers and ply outsides and you have the smallest package which is almost bullet proof. Prices are similar to what you have.
