Any Sketch Up experts that can help?
Hi all! I've been asked to quote on a built in tv / bookcase. I normally draw it up old school but I'm keen to give Sketch Up a go. Is it hard to pick up quickly? Would there be anyone on here willing to draw it up for me if I give them the specs? Here is something very similar to what I'm going to be building.
What I need fairly quickly is Sketch Up plan, cut list etc
Please let me know if you can assist.
Bryan

Hi Bryan
I've started to teach myself to use sketch-up.
An issue I'm struggling with is that sketch-up seems to require that you resolve most joint details before you start drawing.
In the example you posted, changing the length of a component to accommodate the little bit extra needed to fit into a dado is not a simple operation.
I'm reasonably confident that I could produce a rendered 3-D drawing good enough to show the client, I'm far less confident that the drawing would be accurate enough to produce a cut list. Clients don't see stopped dados and rebates, and cut outs to accommodate facia panels etc -- but cut lists require them.regards from Alberta, Canada

As ian said, Sketchup is good for concept drawings, but requires a LOT of work if you want enough detail to create a cut list from it. At work we move to Autocad to get all the details sorted out once we have a concept.
I hope you're not expecting it for nothing, there's a few hours of work there.

I did a course on lynda.com on Sketchup and picked it up fairly quickly, they are a subscription website with heaps of diferent courses, there is a 1 month free trial so you could do that then cancel.
Even tho I can now use sketchup, I'm pretty slow at it. I have sent hand sketches to people on fiverr.com to draw in sketchup, ends up costing about $7 and saves me a couple of hours getting frustrated with Sketchup
It's good to have an idea of how to use it so you can tweak the drawing yourself after receiving
