    Default My sons fort

Just built this for my son.
Now i'm wanting to add a bridge over to a bigger platform for a higher slide and a firemans pole.
What type of a bridge would be easiest to build? I've been looking at doing a clatter bridge with chains and wood.
    What does everyone think?

My two maniacs (2 and 3) love clatter bridges. I'm not sure how well one would work spanning two different heights, though.

I have no idea of quality or lack thereof, but I did see flying fox kits on fleabay a couple of months back.

Yeah i think i may have to do another type of bridge or perhaps have a lower platform of the same height on the new one i'm building iykwim so that the bridge is between two platforms of the same height.

    Thumbs up

Clatter bridges are great for kids and a difference in levels is not a problem.

    That is a great fort!!

Just don't tell council or WPH&S!

I'm not so sure, artme. I haven't yet seen a commercially installed play ground with a clatter bridge spanning differing height platforms, for good reason no doubt. I imagine you could possibly get away with up to 10 degs or so before it gets tricky for kids, but I'm sure it'd be worth it.

The other version is a single rope to walk on and 2 higher for holding withe a few criss crossing up and down bit like a V shape.

Other issue is that freestanding? having 2 freestanding with a heavy load on the bridge (drunk uncle etc) may be a problem

It has metal anchors and it's as solid as a rock. It wouldn't be too big a bridge (1.5m max) so it should be okay.
My other option was to make the front of the playground (the new platform) into the front of a ship, put a ships wheel up there and use chains/boards and rope to make a bridge from the ground to the 'ship' like they do at a dock. Might be easier and sturdier and provide just as much fun!?!?!

I like the ship idea, with the clatter bridge, and a step up to the front of the bow. A mast/flagpole, and a porthole or 2
