Sourcing a JET sander part
I don't know how, but the oil sight glass broke on my schools spindle sander. Bought at the start of last year. It's not even near anywhere that students could touch
Carbatec don't stick JET anymore and don't have the part in stock. I've found it here https://store.jettools.com/oil-sight...oss-s-181.html but postage is $80USD.
I'm thinking as long as the thread matched, I could try and find one locally. Anyone got a lead on where to get them? Or is this a case of just pay the postage and get the original part.

You can use a freight forwarder in the USA, it will often save a considerable portion of the shipping when faced with exorbitant costs like this.
I used to use US to OZ (US to OZ - Shipping to Australia), but haven't used them lately, and they've changed owner since I last did, hence can't speak to their service nowadays.

The same part is used on the Powermatic machine. You might have more luck locally.

I have a hard time believing that JET have their own proprietary sight glasses. What's the thread? We've got a couple of bags of spares at work that would probably fit.

I agree. Thanks, I'll take some measurements on Monday.
It seems Powermatic have the same part but it wouldn't give me an option to post internationally. I'll source local if I can though.
I have a theory about how it broke after some thinking about it. It's shaped like a hexagon and sits just above where the spare spindles are kept. I'm thinking a student was trying to change the spindle and thought the sight glass was a nut that would loosen the spindle

Hi, not sure if it helps but I've just searched for oil sight glass online and there's plenty of options popping up on eBay. You could buy 10 for the cost of the postage. There's a few metal bodied options as well which would stop it happening again.
These are quite common on air compressors as well so a local compressor supplier might be an option.
