Thanks for the reply richmond69.
the doors are going to be a bit on the tall side.
I'll need at least 3 hinges on each door. Probably 4
We'll need to consider sliding doors as well. Thanks,
Barry G. Sumpter

Figure on 3-4kg per hinge. 2 up to 900 high, 3 to 1500, 4 to 2000 and 5 to 2500 high. That should be good for Melamine mdf doors to 600 wide.

Just hope you don't have to do much adjustment, trying to get 3 hinges to work nicely is bad enough
Seriously though, it's not that bad if you work systematically

Barry, I am clearly missing the maths here. You put a carcass together, then screw end boards in say 20mm wider than your cabinet at each end.
You then measure the width between the side boards (assuming 2 doors), then subtract 2-3mm from each end and ONE gap in the middle. So, if you want "close", your doors will be total width / 2 less 6mm/2. I've had a few beers, so I hope my maths are right.
Forget about the width of the iron on strip, it's fractional.
Just to repeat, if the total inside width between the outside boards is 1000mm, your door should be allowing 3mm either end and 3mm in the middle. The euro hinges will fix any imperfections.
Sorry mate, hope that makes sense.

Hi Jeff,
Yes. We're talking about the same thing.
i.e. 1000mm width cabinet. With 2 x 500mm doors. -3mm giving 497mm. With a 1mm edge.
Deducing:
the finished gap in the middle would be ~2mm.
the outside edges of the door Within ~1mm aligned with the outside edges of the sides.
Otherwise
super accurate the finished gap in the middle would be 3mm.
the outside edges of the door Within 0 gap (perfectly) aligned with the outside edges of the sides.
Also asked if matching cabinets are side by side - no additional subtraction needed.
If they can deliver this accuracy. I'm happy to pay the extra $ for machine drilled hinge holes.
-------
The only quote so far is 3 times the ~$600 in lightweight 2.4m x 1.2m ply.
$660 with delivery.
And I have to do everything.
Edged and cut melamine ~$1800 including delivery.
And I have to put it all together and mount.
I was super happy with the price I got for the 2 reindeer, santa and sleigh jobs.
No other quotes so far to compare.
grrrrr. the boss has just asked me to calculate getting all the edged lengths off the shelf. Thanks,

This seems very conservative, Richmond.
I made a wall of storage cupboards 25 years ago with Indonesian louvre doors (light meranti ?) with each door 2100 x 500 mm. Each door has three Blum hinges - similar to their clip top hinges but much bulkier - and there have been no problems in 25 years. Still work well.
Its hard enough to align 3 hinges; five is mind boggling!
Cheers
Graeme

The number of hinges is what is recommended regardless of brand. Blum, Hettich, Grass, Lama, Indaux all give the same recommendation. An 8x4 sheet of 16mm melamine mdf weighs approx 38kg, which means a 2m high 600 wide cabinet door weighs about as much as an 820 redicote internal door. Don't underestimate the leverage forces, those hinge mounting plates are held to the cabinet by a couple of small euro screws.

AllBoard Distributors seem to be the only ones who respond to questions and quote requests.
Although, if they are going to sell to the layman,
they really need to update their website with proper ordering instructions.
I don't feel it would be that hard.
i.e. like telling you if asking for a specific colour for the melamine panels cost 3 times the price.
My lady keeps reminding me that this project was intended to keep me busy.
Wondering if I buy the 12 16mm 2400 x 1200 standard white melamine sheets from Allboards
If I can use the Melamine Particle board 80 tooth cross cut blade for ripping?
Using Kreg Concealed Hinge Jig and Kreg System 32 Jig and Allboards edging.
If I use the Kreg Jigs would I use them before or after I glue the edges?
Then once the cupboards are installed decide which colour melamine doors edged all round
to order from Allboard.
I was relieved to hear they use Grass hinges since reading here in this thread.
Calculating ~$1000 for materials and tools this way of keeping me busy doing it all myself.
From bunnings off the shelf calculating $1200 (extra $200 for the already edged lengths and system 32 sides)
- just not confident with the melamine quality.
Otherwise ~~1500 - getting all cut to specs and edged from Allboard using white melamine interior and special melamine coloured doors. Not including glue.
Yes, ok, i watched a number of youtube videos that sparked my need and built my confidence. Thanks,
Barry G. Sumpter

If I can use the Melamine Particle board 80 tooth cross cut blade for ripping? Yes, melamine has no grain so it doesn't matter which way you cut it.
If I use the Kreg Jigs would I use them before or after I glue the edges? After

With the 2400 x 1200 sheets being so large,
I'd like to use my plunge saw.
160mm blade with a 20mm board.
Would 52 teeth work?
Its the most teeth I can find for this size.
60 tooth here:

That works out to be the same tooth pitch as a 300mm 96T blade, so I'd say it's fine.
