Suggestions for kids projects
instarsia with the girls.jpg
We always make our xmas presents, and this year I saw an intarsia tutorial on the youtube. My eldest daughter (5yo) was impressed and we decided that it would be within our capabilities. (I have not done any woodworking since my first year of high school, but my husband is handy and has begun learning a bit about woodworking).
We came up with the idea of making keyracks. I found pictures or drew my own, my husband cut them out, and I sanded them, and then the kids painted them, and glued them. We have completed one as a trial, and we made three with the kids last week (just waiting hooks and varnish).
I am very please with how they are turning out, and am trying to think of a few other ideas along the same vein... something that could have colorful intarsia on it, something that a grand-parent or other family member would appreciate as a gift (useful, not ornamental).
So far I have key rack, coat rack. I thought we might try our hand at making a couple of little simple boxes that the kids could make for each other (my friends kid's are all helping make them as well).
Any suggestions? Input?
Thanks,
Cassie.
