Table age, maker - any ideas?
Hi people,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to where or who this table may have come from, or anything else really.
Also, I’m referring to this as art nouveau marquetry, but if there are some design aficionados out there that could either confirm or more likely, correct me on the style, that would be tops! )
It’s a friend of a friends so I don’t have a lot of other details.
Cheers,
Mike

Nice Table Mike !
Id have a guess and say NZ .The timbers would prove that. There was a big thing for doing this sort of thing over there by Anton Sueffert but it looks later than a lot of the images of his stuff.
Otherwise Austria or somewhere within 2000 K from there ??

Thanks Rob,
Some leads to pursue. I had a look at his work but seems to be a fair bit more intricate and detailed than this table. From reading about him just now, I’d say it would be quite valuable if it was.
The flora design could well be one of the berry trees they have in NZ - but then could also be a hundred other plants.
To be honest this style is far from my taste. I appreciate the detail and skill required to make such a piece but I wouldn’t put it in my house.. I like fine modern furniture.
Cheers,
Mike

Yeah its later than the linked stuff . Looks more like 1920s or 1930s roughly . I Just showed a friend who collects and deals similar stuff by the same maker in the link . He agrees on date and spotted what he thought by my phone pictures to be NZ Timbers Rewa Rewa, Totara and possibly Mottled Kauri . You could google for exact spelling and pictures of timbers. Also mentioned there were some blokes or a bloke/ fella, doing this sort of thing in QLD as well . But thought it was most likely NZ.

Thanks again Rob, that’s good info.
I’ll do some more research with this and see what I can find.
Cheers,
Mike
