    Default Table saw Bearings

I think the bearings have gone on my table saw. Has anyone had any experience replacing? Am I better to just buy a new motor? Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Brand and model of saw would be a good starting point.

I have done them on my carbatec 10” cabinet saw. From memory it was a fairly straight forward exercise

And have you checked if it's the motor bearing or the arbor bearing?

Just pulled out the motor, ball bearings fell out along with some shredded metal. I'll see if I ca pick up a new bearing. It is a Detroit saw, about 18 months old, so not happy. What a pain pulling the motor out. Everything else looks ok, so I don't think the motor is damaged.

18 months sounds like warranty claim to me.

rwbuild you are such a cynic. I note that Total Tools don't sell them any more, h'mm. A decent ball bearing surely doesn't cost that much more than a crap one? Providing nothing is damaged you should be able to source some replacement bearings from any decent bearing supplier. Make sure you have an accurate measurement on exactly what you are after.

You never know, once you've replaced the motor bearings the thing might go for years.

I found my arbour bearing gave out soon after coving some scoria. I had been taking less than a mm per pass but it seems that any side pressure can wear out the bearings quickly. I got the best bearings I could to replace them with although I don’t think I have done any coving since

Got 2 new bearings, thought I may as well replace the rear bearing as well while I had it pulled apart. Now I just have to get the mangled one off the shaft, it is stuck tight. Not looking forward to putting it all back together, it was bugger getting the motor out. At least i can see if she works before hand.

Can you get on to what's left of the bearing with a 2 or 3 armed puller?

No I couldn't. The fan was in the way, and I couldn't see how to get this off. I ended up cutting it off with a dremel. Put it all back and working fine. Hopefully lasts a bit longer than the last one. I was out of my comfort zone on this repair and learnt a fair bit.
