I spent a lot of time thinking about building one myself... went to Ikea for some Ideas...bought one.
Very well made ,,weights a ton and plenty of lift.
Mine has two 3d printers, monitor, laptop, lamps and my electronic tools. Does not even notice it when lifting.
Under the table has a net to hold all the cabling, great idea
Have a look you might get some ideas.

To get this thread back on track, the LINAK system has already been purchased.

I do NOT want to look at any other type of system

I am new and with minimal wood skills.

I've decided to go the way of an electric standing desk and looking for something that'll fit into a home use environment and look okay.

I also have three monitors on the desk, a heavy triple monitor stand (with its own clamp, grommet or it can sit on the desk too) a set of speakers, a few other things so the weight is approx 40-60kgs

    https://shop.ergotechgroup.com/triple-monitor-stands-tw

I have purchased LINAK actuators from a company

1200N (120kgs) per column, 4 columns, one at each corner

    https://www.linak.com.au/products/lifting-columns/dl6/

    https://www.linak.com.au/products/ac...es/kick-click/

    4 x DL6 @ 120kg per leg

    1 x CBD6S 4ch 300 watt

    1 x DPF with display

2 x klick&click (light frame/support system from the same company)

Approx cost $2000+ for the LINAK system, so slightly better quality than the average sit stand desk combo

I am in Sydney, so am looking for a few timber yards I can ask to quote up.

I want to grab a desktop made from a light coloured solid wood, sourced, put together and finished (I will not be staining or making it darker, the lighter the better) as a single panel 180cm x 90cm x 3-5cm thick and install the sit/stand parts myself by drilling into the wood.
What would be the best type of hardwood?

What Q should I ask the supplier/manufacturer and where should I go for a few quotes please?

    Can anyone please help me.

Please do not point me to other desk brands or legs etc.

I really need a wood top

    Understood

I strongly suggest that you go to Ikea and look at their pre-finished kitchen counter tops. I'm fairly certain that you will be able to order one in size you require. It may be veneered particle board rather than solid wood, but for what you want I don't consider that an issue.
Next source would be a kitchen company -- again the desk top you want would be a near "standard" option for a kitchen counter top.

Third, post on here -- there's a WANTED section -- asking one of the regulars to make and finish the top for you.

A timber yard would be your last (desperate) option as you would then need to do all the machining and finishing yourself.

I haven't looked at your lift hardware, but if it has a frame of some sort, how you attach your top to the base will need to accommodate expansion and contraction of the top -- if the top is solid wood

Following this, I'm looking for an adjustable desk option. Where did you get your Linak hardware?

IKEA definitely do a solid timber kitchen top which is quite a light coloured timber. It does however come without being oiled. (They sell the oil, and it is really easy to apply). Good luck!

Isn;t the IKEA version just a 3.5mm top over particleboard?

Shucks -- I priced some solid wood panels 2400x900x35 from Bunnings here in NZ and they wanted close to $1000 for them.
Needless to say, I went to my up-market timber merchant and bought some jarrah 6x2 and laminated them myself for 40%
    of the price.

They may make one like that also but they certainly used to make a solid laminated benchtop too. My sister's kitchen is definitely solid timber (and fairly thick) and I have an island bench with a solid timber top, but that is only about 20mm thick.
