Taunton's Finewoodworking Network
I was just surfing and found Taunton's Finewoodworking Network with a subscription of US$39.95 pa - it supposedly has plans, reviews and videos etc. Has anybody subscribed? Would this be a better alternative to the actual hardcopy of the magazine?
I am interested in comments for and against/

I too have seen (just yesterday) this site and have subscribed to the magazine.
Subscribing to the site for me I think was not worth it, as I only have dial-up, and to get full benefit I think you would need to be able to access the videos that they now have available to watch, to get full value.
Thats my 2 bob's worth.
Cheers

I subscribe to the Taunton Finewoodworking Network and find it a great source of woodworking articles and video clips.
The articles are from past magazines and sometimes have video clips (1-8 minutes or so long).
Most of the articles are in PDF form so are easy to save and print.
I only have a few of the Finewoodworking magazines so I can't comment much on a subscription to them. What I do like is that you have access to hundreds of previous magazine articles for a fairly low price. (Can also pay monthly about US$8).
Buzzer - I agree that a broadband connection is best but you can still download the PDF articles on dialup although this is probably still a little slow.

I too was confused DPB - did not connect to much the first time but it worked the second time. I must have missed that thread!!!!
Inital consensus seems that if you have broadband it's a goer!!!

I subscribe to the printed mag and yesterday paid an additional US$14.95 for a years sub to the online network....
I have just spent an hour or so on the site so far but for the price its fantastic... A years access for less than A$20 .....
There also appears to be a very extensive and active forum there as well for members but im sure nowhere nearly as good as this one
Two questions (one for subscribers and one for IT Guru) .....
1. Is there anywhere you can insert a mag number / or see a lit of prior magazines and then click down on contents pages to see articles you want ? The structure appears to me to be select by topic eg Router then it churns out list of related articles..... While this is best way if you know what you are looking for the ability to brouse month by month would be nice for bed timereading......
2. Anyone know of a way to download vids for later viewing ... they are "aspx" files ...
Thanks
Albert

I had a look at the subscription page. It says they send you a reminder email before they automatically renew your subscription (presumably by credit card?). Can anyone confirm if this is really the case. If yes I'm unlikely to join as this approach to membership renewal annoys the crap out of me after an experience where I cancelled my contract and they still kept taking my money for about 6 months and it took months after that to get my money back.
aabb: It's unlikely you can save the aspx vid files with "legal" software. If you have a video out on your PC you can always DVD-R or video tape them, it's still probably illegal.
