ya reakon. there's nothing good about splinters. Especially those buggers that go right in deep under the nail. you can keep that.

Ask the missus to get you a thimble out of her sewing box.

You could use gloves. They have tight elasticised gloves for handling timber which are leather tipped but still give good feel. they are not loose like riggers gloves that can catch in things. If i remember i wear them and if not I remember to once I get my first splinter. Under the finger nail is the worst!

If masking tape works well but cuts off the circulation, what do you reckon you could do to stop cutting off the circulation?

why not make some finger jigs to hold the timber tight, or have a piece of smooth wood in your hand to apply pressure

I don't know what you mean.

I do know what you mean about feather boards. Generally we use them to keep the wood down (clamped off the fence), but not practical to use them to hold them tight to the fence.

The reason is because we throw different width timbers through all the time. Take too long re-adjusting the feather board all the time. Just easier to pressure hard with the fingers. I'm fine with it, except for the splinters and it slices up my finger tips after a while. Starting to bother me a bit now.

use a push stick as a featherboard.

I know what I'll do. I'll take that glove idea. I'll wear a welding glove and stuff the tip of the finger with newspaper. That way if a spear goes through I'm safe.
