Timbecon Vices
I'm looking at purchasing a vice for my newly built workbench, and the Quick Action Front Vice Screw looks like it ticks some boxes. It's affordable, and has quick action.
Is there anyone with any experience with these?

I have the smaller version of their standard front vice and i’m happy with it. I don’t find the having to screw the vice in and out a burden.

I had the misfortune of having a quick release vice that developed a tendency to pop open while tightening up. A major pain in the @&$e. A regular screw has nothing that can go wrong with it and as Lappa says not a burden to wind in and out.

I have two of their quick release vises.
One works great, the other has the slight jump when tightening after using quick release, but if you are aware if it you just need to give it another turn to tighten.
But I only really use the quick release when I am either closing the vise to get it out of way, or if I am opening it up fairly wide to fit a piece. Otherwise my brain just defaults to turning the screw.

All great points.
Thanks for the suggestions, it sounds like the standard vice might be the way to go.

Hi Mark,
can’t speak for the Timbecon vices, but I have a Dawn vice with a quick release, bought off eBay or Gumtree second hand. Great vice and I would not trade the quick release feature for anything. Personal preference, of course, but I would not consider a vice without the quick release although I have to use them at our Men’s Shed. We are looking to replace with Q/R but will buy secondhand again.

Hi Mark,
I had the Carbatec version of the regular vise you are looking at.
The darn thing would never clamp up perfectly square, due to the casting which houses the handle not being square and acting as a cam.
I tried to true it up with some success but it never was good enough.
So I replaced it with a 9" Dawn off Ebay and now very happy.
Regards
Keith
