Many Many thanks to all for the info and advice.
I will get what I can from local timber or 2nd hand timber merchants here in Newcastle, use external PVA glue, paraffin oil from a pharmacy and issue strict instructions not to put the board in the dishwasher.

ken,
not to put too finer point on things but you need to get "liquid paraffin" not parrafin oil. Liquid paraffin from the chemist is ingestible, I believe as an example, Diggers - paraffin oil that you would get from Bunnings is not edible and can be used in oil lamps. I wouldn't be spreading something that can be used in an oil lamp on a bread board. I may be wrong but check it out first.

I've used olive oil a few times on bread boards and have been happy with the results. Does anyone know if that is not recommended?
Thanks

this argument will be fiercely contested as there is belief that olive oil goes rancid after a time, some say yes others no problem. Before I started making my own and using mineral oil, the wife used to wipe Canola oil over the cheap IKEA boards every now and then when they dried out and started warping. Never had an issue.
