I am shifting house over the next month (read shift shed) and I need a rack for the work ute .
To do front and rear demountable racks was going to cost about $150.00 in steel and then I still had to assemble/weld it up.

Being a tight ass I thought, why not timber. I had offcuts in the shed so 1/2 hr of cutting and ditto to assemble and the back is done.

Being a carpenter I have a better idea of the load bearing of timber than steel so I am confident that it will take the loads I will put on it. The only problem I can find will be the long term flexing stresses on the screws in the timber elongating the holes but since I will not be using it for a long period it shouldn't be a problem.

The next thing will be the front rack and what to use for the underneath brackets. Ply or steel.
