Tool pawn - new bosch 12" SCMS
Hi,
I was able to upgrade to a 12" Bosch blue sliding compound mitre saw - old style not the new glide type for $799 including two Bosch blades. It's a awesome saw and I am enjoying the extra capacity. I also am building a mitre saw station, so far just the bench has been built.
I am going to sell the makita 1040 10" cms that I upgraded from, my older ryobi SCMS and the portable stand I got from bunnings to help recoup some of the cost, you can see them all on the bottom shelf cleaned up ready.

G'Day "pellcorp",
I have the 10" version and the only fault is the dust shoot.
I added a length of wrap-around fluted rubber matting coming down from the dust shoot to the cutting surface.
I now have better dust collection.
Enjoy your saw, they a pretty u-beaut.
Cheers, crowie

Update ...
I was experiencing blade wobble which was marring my test pieces. I tried both stock thin kerf blades. I got out my dial indicator and both blades have a runout of 0.15 mm. the arbor has less than 0.02mm runout, so I bought a Irwin 60T blade and that has a max runout of 0.04mm. and now I am getting great cuts without marring. so the stock blades are a waste of time!
I also realise the sliders have to be treated a little more gently than non slider. if you push the head it can deflect up to 0.30mm.
these dont sound like a lot but 0.15mm is enough to mar acut.
with these changes I am again happy with my new saw.
my next challenge is getting the mitre saw station finished. I have been working on then today and I have really struggled to get everything squared up. cdex plywood is aweful, hardly a consistent thickness.
anyway think I will throw my first effort away and try again, maybe with all pynewood (chipboard)
its quite a challenge getting everything square, its not like furniture where a 1mm variance is hardly going to be noticed (except on joints obviously)
anyway more fun tomorrow and pictures of yhe completed station if I am not to embarrassed !!!

G'Day "Scribbly Gum",
My work bench is similar to yours with the saw mounted across the end.
I also have an engineers vice bolted to a block of hardwood for use in the QA Woodwork Vice.
You can see my slide out shelf in one half of the bottom level.
I've attached a "pdf file" of the setup c/w detailed photos of the fluted rubber curtain on the dust shoot which I add to try to help with the dust collection.
I catch 90% most of the time as long as the mini cyclone & triton are clean.
I have plans from Chris in Canberra to make a 2 drum cyclonic dust collector and am in the process of sourcing/sorting the parts.
Cheers, crowie

Re: Tool pawn - new bosch 12" SCMS
Well I scrapped the in feed and out feed tables and started again, and I am really pleased that I did. I copied NYWS ideas and did it all with CDex plywood - and it worked out really well. Within a sheet of paper of being flush (it's a sheet of paper under so I can shim as required)
I used my stacked dado set and glue, screws and brads

That's come up a treat, well done "pellcorp".
What are your plans for dust collection?

Re: Tool pawn - new bosch 12" SCMS
I have finished the additional infeed segments, these are temporary segments than are clamped onto the side of the table to give me up to 3.5m of stop block length )

You're doing a top job on the saw bench, indeed....pellcorp.
You could do a dust box out of mini-rib sheet with a dust collection shoot dropping down under the back of the saw bench?
Cheers, crowie
