training courses - any opinions?
I find myself with quite a bit of spare time at the moment and have been thinking of enrolling in a furniture making training course to try and step up my current basic skill level.
I have found courses in Melbourne by Handsome and Co & Melbourne Guild of Fine Woodworking who both have vacancies for 4th term.
Does anyone know anything about them or attended any of their courses? I don't want to waste my time and money if they aren't up to scratch.

Your location of "Melbourne" makes it difficult to recommend a particular place but if you are over the west side you could try these guys. Haven't tried any of their classes but they have some good gear to work with.

Thanks @Treecycle. They never came up in my searches but I've sent them an email now to find out what they have on offer, and I've updated my profile to be more specific about location.

I id four terms at the Melbourne guild of fine woodworking and I found the school very good. I started as a complete novice by making a Shaker side table.
At the end I had the skills and confidence to tackle quite advanced projects. Can definitely recommend.

Prices are probably on par with Carbatec but the store is on a much smaller scale. Unfortunately their website doesn't give a lot of detail on what they sell except names. I brought my tablesaw from them about 5 years ago and the price was quite good then.
Their workshop out the back is large with good quality machinery from what I remember. When I was there a fellow who lived nearby was using the workshop to do some of his own work. At the time they weren't pushing the classes very strongly but hopefully this has changed as there seems to be some new guys involved in the business now after seeing them at the T&WWW show.

Unfortunately, I don’t think they hold courses anymore. I was there a couple of weeks ago while looking for a table saw, they had a Harvey in stock. Asked about the courses but the guy working there said they don’t do that anymore.

I ended up doing the 4th term at Handsome and Co with Liam Thomas from We Eat The Sun running the course. It was a great course.
I also did their 3 day build a workbench course and have a great workbench from that.
