Default Trans-Tasman freight and machinery purchase

I am about to purchase an used woodworking machinery from Australia. I am sure this is not the first time it has been done, is there anything that I need to be aware of? the seller will clear out the dust/shavings and put the machine in a box.

Raymond who posts on the old machinery part of this forum has bought stuff in NZ and had it shipped to Oz economically before covid.

Default Shipping machinery from Aust to NZ

I did this for a bandsaw 10+ years ago.
It is not cheap. I will look up the shipping firm I used.
There is some bureaucracy involved as well as I registered with NZ customs to get an official importer number.

Default More info from the NZ side

    Hi,
relevant page for a person looking to import machinery as a private individual:
    https://www.customs.govt.nz/personal...ustoms-number/
I obtained a customs number for myself back in 2004 when I imported a folding bike from the UK. The customs number does not expire.

Freight cost in 2010 to import a Hammer 4400 bandsaw was Australian $500, excluding Aust GST. Probably double this cost now in 2023.
The seller, Felder Australia Ltd, arranged for a shipping firm, Rohlig to pickup the bandsaw from their Sydney premises and transport it across to the local NZ branch of the shipping firm.
Shipping firm was happy when I supplied them with my customs number, otherwise they would have had to arrange one for me (at extra cost).
I had to pay NZ GST on the bandsaw as it's price/value was greater than $1,000. I can't remember if there was any import duty paid as well.

If your seller is not willing to arrange shipping, then you will have to arrange this from the NZ end - try the shipping company Röhlig NZ as a starter.

Wishing you the best on this.
