    Default Triton router service/repairs Melbourne

    Evening all,

After advice or experience in getting tools serviced in Melbourne. Specifically I’ve got a newish (5 years) triton router which is having issues after heavy use, and now has stopped totally.

Someone has mentioned I should check the brushes...which could lead me onto the next question, what are brushes! In all seriousness it needs a professional opinion so any recommendations taken.

I’m based in SE (Caulfield) but would happily travel for recommendations.

    Cheers folks.

You should see a black cap with a slot in it on both sides of the router, unscrew it to get access to the brushes.

Inside you'll find the brushes; they're graphite pads that get the electricity from the switch to the motor. Some brushes have a small pin inside them that pops out once they're worn out to prevent damage to the motor, some just have a line marked on them to indicate the minimum size

You should be able to find replacements online just by searching for the model number and "brushes", they're not expensive and don't require any special tools to replace other than a screwdriver and maybe some small pliers to get the old ones out.

Is it the MOF or TRA model?
If its an MOF it is probably not worth the cost of repairing as they are being sold at the moment for around $250 with free delivery Repair costs add up pretty quickly. If its only brushes then it would be worth it and could do it yourself.
The TRA's are still around the $500 mark.

For tool repairs try Tool Centre McKinnon, also known as United Tools McKinnon. https://unitedtoolsmckinnon.com.au/
While I have not personally used their repair service the shop has been in business for over 25 years.
Another option but a bit further away is Huntingdale Power Tools. Huntingdale Power Tools | Service and Repairs This shop has also been around along time.

Big delay but thanks for all the comments. The chocolates however go to @elanjacobs who solved the issue. Brushes were the issue, and they were ordered and installed. Easy as. Cheers folks!
