    Default Troubleshooting Belt linisher noise

    Hi guys,
I n the last week, I purchased a second hand/restored Lin is her. The machine after10 minutes of use started making this noise.
Previous owner replaced bearings and painted the machine.

Please, if anyone can assist in troubleshooting, it would be appreciated.

    Here is a video.

it sounds like a piece of thin or light metal touching a moving sanding or sanding support surface. I am presuming that you have checked that the table on the disk sander isn't out of alignment and touching the disk? The metal enclosure for that sanding disk could also be twisted/out of alignment and rubbing either on the front or back of the disk. Otherwise it could be the dust collector at the end of the linisher rubbing. If non of those then try raising the linisher into the vertical position to see if there is anything underneath rubbing.

    Good luck

Sounds like the belt is rubbing on something. Try it in the upright position and also play with the tracking to see if thats all it is. Another guess is the drive belt may be causing it.
Its not the squeal of a bad bearing so I dont think it is anything real bad.

That sounds like a loose motor fan to me.
Take the fan end cap covering off the motor and see if the fan is loose.

    PS: See warning below.

    Just a thought. . . .

To me it sounds like the joint in the belt is touching something and with each revolution you get the 'flick'.

But then again, I spent too many years in computer rooms that destroyed my hearing and currently wear two hearing aids.

    I've seen a few of these>

One was on a 2HP compressor motor where the fan cooled both the motor and the compressor unit.
The owner of the compressor had heard the funny sound but kept using it until it had stopped working (overheated and tripped out) and then asked me to look at it.
The grub screw holding the fan one was loose and made this same noise as the video.

Another was a 3/4HP motor from a bandsaw that the owner had replaced after it started to make a tubby noise. He asked me if I wanted the motor and I found the culprit right away.
