    Default Valuing machinery

    Hi All,
I am helping a friend dispose of his tools and am struggling a bit with appropriate pricing.
I would appreciate members' advice on realistic prices for the following tools, all Carbatec branded, one owner and bought new in 2002:

    12 1/2" thicknesser Model CT-340,
    15' bandsaw, BA215W
    6" belt & 9" disc sander AS-609 Q+G

    Thanks,
    Dicky Knee

I think a good guide is to go to ebay , the woodwork machinery section
    https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Equipmen...D57120&_sop=10

Search and look through that and also type in the items and click completed listings so see what sold like that . Or got passed in . That will give you the bottom value any way.

Always a hard thing to do as there are so many variables. General rule of thumb is about half of retail price if item is in good working condition. As has been said what similar items fetch on Ebay gives an idea.

I agree with John but here is my rough guide (RRP refer to current RRP unless machine or equivalent is no longer available) .

More than a few months old but never used 75-80% of RPP,

Good working order 50-60% - this means it has all the bits and pieces and does what it should

Needs work 25-50% (obviously depends what needs doing)

Elderly/outdated machinery 25 - 50% original RRP. Some really old machines are highly desirable so these can fetch a lot more if they are in good nick.

    Parts machine 10-20% original RRP

It also depends if a machine comes with extra/upgraded accessories, consumables , missing parts, or has been diddle with in various ways and how successful the diddling has been.

    What Bob said ^

Single phase makes a huge difference too, I’ve bought a number of three phase machines over the last year and the owners have had no end of trouble getting rid of them until I came along.
