Default New Vice, how to install?

    Hi

I purchased this Vice yesterday but after getting it home and realizing it came with no instructions I am wanting to know the following?

    1. I presume in the picture it is upside down?
    2. Does anyone have this Vice and if so how did you got about installing it?
    3. I obviously need to make a front jaw for it, but would you make rear jaws as well?
    4. The main thing I want to know is, when making the front jaws, you need to drill for 3 holes for all 3 rods, don't you? Most of the videos I have watched on installing vices, the jaw simply sits above the rods and you then screw it to the front metal jaw but this one is different, am I correct?

    Appreciate any advice.

    Cheers

I am pretty sure its the same as the Lee Valley vice shown here:

Instructions are available on their page as well:

    Hi Arry,
I have that vice and it is not too hard to install. You'r thinking is correct about it being the other way up and you do have to drill three holes. I fixed the main block under the top with coach screws so there are no bolt heads on top. This is fine with a thick top but if less than 50mm then I would bolt right through or glue on another board to thicken it up. For the front jaw a good chunky bit of wood at least 50mm thick. I used the main block as a template to trace where the holes go. The holes for the guide rods should be as snug as you can get but have some slack in the hole for the main screw. The 2 thick washer things get recessed into the inside face of the jaw and are to help prevent slop. Leave the jaw a bit taller than the bench top during the instalation then when done tighten and plane down level with top. Plane the jaw very slightly tapered with the thick bit upmost so the top of the jaw grips with the bench top first. I only took a vew pics of the vice during my bench build but hopefully you get some idea.
All up it is quite a good vice and does whats required of it.
    Regards
    John

    Arry,
I have just read the Lee Valley instructions and would suggest you go with them. Wish I had seen them before I did mine. I had no instructions with mine and just winged it. It works fine and I have a couple of inches wider opening but I now see the real function of those support collers is to take some of the downwards load. Anyhow not hard to redo that bit.
    Regards
    John

Thanks for all your help guys, will read through the instructions now.

Its pretty poor on Carbatec's side I think not supplying instructions.

    Oh well.

    Cheers

    Arry
