Wardrobe fix
A friend gave me this wardrobe a while ago -its someone's unfinished project that they gave up on. Most of the old paint has been stripped off, and I'll need to patch up a few areas that were once repaired with a hammer and nails. But before I do anything I would like to fix the door hinges. The door frame has split (pic 2), partly because of the small hinges (pic 4), quite soft door frame timber, and heavy door with mirror. Don't know what sort of timber it is, any ideas?
I reckon I have 2 easier options to fix the split door frame:
(1) glue up the split, and put on heavier hinges that will allow me to put in longer screws in the centre of the timber (the existing small hinges meant small screws close to the edge of the timber).
(2) Replace the hinges with piano hinge, either in 3 sections, or maybe one long piece, don't know. What would you do?
Thanks for all/any ideas. AMB

I'd go option 1. but then again, I've been wrong before.
Reality is no background music.

When a door is edge striped a piece of timber is glued to the edge. So in your case I would cut off the damaged edge and glue a piece of matching timber to it. If you can't buy something suitable, you have some [spare] timber on the ornamental top. This normally just sits on the top of the wardrobe. So I would the cut off the bottom of it a piece for the edge strip. Hope this helps
