    Question Water Glass

When I was a kid in Denmark we bought something called Water Glass when we had something like a cracked vase, to waterproof it. We would pour it into the vase, shake it around and let it dry. We also used it to paint on curled up edges of carpet squares to flatten them.
I believe the chemical name is natriumsilikat (Na2Si3O7, H2O)
I have just bought a floor vase made from bamboo but it is not waterproof.
Where would I be able to get this product?
    TIA

Sodium Silicate , or Water Glass, is used (amongst other things) in concrete additives, you might want to see if you can find a manufacturer of those that will let you buy some.

As a kid, it was used by my parents to preserve eggs for use during the winter months, it made the shells impervious to oxygen.

You may want to read the MSDS though.

    as Big Shed says.
It is also knows as isinglass and is/was sold under a trade name of something like keepegg.
It was used on concrete to make it impervious to oil etc.

You can almost certainly get a product like that from a garden shop that sells concrete pots or ponds/fountains. Works a treat.

You can also get it from pottery supply (clays and glazes) places.
