The paper work did take a bit of time - a bit of mucking around answering impossible questions for someone ignorant about such matters as myself. I had to get a building permit, a planning permit and then because of the cost of the shed I had to register as an owner builder.

An example of the mucking around there was a question on the owner builders form "Is the building associated with your dwelling?". As you can see from the photos, the shed is not what I call associated with our house. WRONG

The forms were returned to me. Despite sending them a copy of the title, a map showing our property with the house and proposed shed site clearly drawn and indicating they were all on our land I had to answer YES to that question because both buildings were on the same title!!!! That is what they mean associated! They are both in the same universe too.

Another example - I had to do the 60Km round trip from town to home and back again merely to note on the application the colourbond name of the colour green for the walls and roof. Nobody driving past, and no neighbours will even be able to see the shed. We won't even see it through the trees from the house so it isn't really critical that anyone would object to the colour but it had to be done that way.

Once I sorted out all those mistakes in my form filling out nightmare sending forms back and forwards it was all OK'd.

I don't blame the council for all the paperwork, they have to jump through all the hoops as laid down by the State Government who probably have to comply with Federal Government laws which are probably determined by the United Nations. The Council people were very helpful and supportive.

I then had quite a delay because the mate who is helping me build it was tied up with other work.

Word gets around fast though, last night down at the pub everyone knew the shed had started - even people who live more than 5 or 6 Kms away knew.

I have been getting quite a few orders to make stuff and I haven't even advertised. I guess that is yet another advantage of living in such a great place with such a fantastic community.

My mate Pete and I did a bit more today on the shed. We have one more frame to put up in the morning to make a total of 4 bays.

We used a combination of snatch block, ropes, Tirfor and my Hilux to lift the frames up after bolting them together on the ground. The ridge is a fraction over 5m high.

I'll keep you posted as we progress.

We will organise it - that's the shed you'll be doing dovetails in.

The roof is at a 22 degree pitch in an attempt to reduce condensation and for the snow which makes it a bit taller.

The shed will be 100% used for woodwork and although no shed is big enough, this one will last me for quite some time I hope.

My previous shed was a bit low, a bit short and not that wide so this one will overcome those limitations I hope.

Maybe we could go down/up some steep slippery tracks one night to collect some really big spiders - only to keep the mozzies and fly populations down.

The cobwebs would also be a nice reminder on the old shed.

The main parts of the frame we finished standing up this morning. A pity we have finished because we had our technique of using the ropes etc perfect by the time we got to the last one.
