Weatherboarding~ What To Use
G'day All.
My house needs cheering up so I would like to weatherboard it- (I have always wanted a weatherboarded house so I cant be talked out of it).
There seems to be 3, possibly 4 options.
1. Cedar: 2nd morgage needed for that.
2. Weathertex: likewise
3. Hardiplank: 9 mm or 16mm: still costly
4. Treated Radiate Pine boards from the local mill.
question is, will the radiata work or will they warp horribly.
Are there any other optiions?
thanks

I thought a lot of the pre-made weather boards were made of Oregon. Can't be sure 'cos I haven't used them but I think it was Oregon and you can get them pre-primed.

I've used the pine a while back on patching the old aircon hole and on a little shed I made. It works a treat. Now, mine we from the local M10 store, not the mill, so i'm not sure how the mill would process the boards. But as long as they're dried right, i cant see a problem.

They are 175mm (nominal 150mm coverage) and 19mm thick at the thickest part. Available in either square or round profile.
Got them from Kastoria Furniture Ballarat Rd Sunshine, speak to George.
It is basically one of those salvage yards that buys pack lots at auction.
Another one that has these is A&R Salvage, Sydney Rd, Campbellfield, they are a bit dearer for the same thing.

I recently built someone a shed out of Radial sawn weatherboards. Gives a rustic look, with the wavy edges still on. Pictures and info can be found here
http://www.radialtimbers.com.au/
you get a whole log or more delivered, with the cuts made almost the whole way along. You lop off the end with a chainsaw, and the whole thing falls apart into a stack of weatherboards. The price is about the same as traditional w'board, but it takes longer to put up, since you cant really string them, as each bottom edge is wavy.
Nice look though.
