Default Anybody on here from the Western suburbs of melbourne? Having planer issues

    Hey folks,

Wondering if there is any kind soul in or around the western suburbs of melbourne (i'm in hoppers crossing) that maybe willing to spare a little time to help me with my jointer? its a hafco p200h - i feel as though it is set right, but clearly my technique or setup of the planer are way out, as i cant manage to joint a piece of timber to save my life. I have a whole house worth of T&G vic ash floor boards and bearers, as well as a bunch more salvaged hardwood which i want to try and dress so that i can make some furniture, but all i seem to be doing is making wedges out of the timber

also, it easier to remachine the t&g on the flooring to join them for panels, or to cut the t&g off?

    thanks in advance

PM me with your address and phone number and I will see what we can arrange.

With T&G flooring the rebate on the bottom is slightly larger than the one on the top so that the boards will come together well when they are compressed as flooring. This means that when used for panels the back joints will have a gap.

Oh man thank you guys so much. I知 embarrassed to say I think I fixed 75 percent of my problem. I must have bumped the outfeed table somewhere along the way and it was sitting higher than the cutter heads [emoji849]. After destroying about 10 pieces of timber I had a hissy fit and came here lookin for help, then cooled down n checked everything again and noticed this.. my only issue now (I think!) is that my fence has quite a bit of wiggle in it, so I知 not getting perfect 90 degree joints... I値l keep playing now that I知 not turning everything into boomerangs and report back if I can稚 win! Thanks so much for the offers

Ok, so I知 getting nice flat faces on the timber (hallelujah) but when edge joining an ending up with this gap.. my square shows that the fence is at 90deg to the table, and that on the timber the edge is at 90 deg to the face.. would this gap suggest that probably my square is inaccurate? I can稚 seem to find any other squares around so can稚 check the fence with another.

    Hi,
To check a square mark a line square to an edge then flip the square and see if the line lines up, if they line up your square is OK.
    Regards

I only just saw this Damon. I am in Hoppers Crossing too but it looks like you are ok now.

Give me a shout if you need to.

    Cheers

Are the blades set correctly in the cutter head? ie. do they run parallel with the bed of the jointer?

I知 pretty sure they池e set fine - ive moved the fence and set it square again, and tried with smaller pieces and got good results.. the bits I知 jointing would be close to 2700mm, so I知 chalking it down to poor technique I think.. I値l run them through again, probably slow down and pay very close attention to them being against the fence and post results..
