What's This Joint
Can someone tell me what this joint is, I've seen it and used it but I'd love to know what it's called.
Imagine a bench frame, top right hand corner you have a meeting of the leg, front beam and side beam.
The leg and front beam are joined in a half lap joint.
The side beam has been drilled about 50mm in from the end, sideways, about 50mm diameter.
There is a steel bolt coming through the leg and front beam joint, through an end hole in the side beam to where the hole drilled in the side allows a washer and nut to go on the bolt which when tightened secures the whole joint.
Anyone know what it's called?

I dunno what the joint is called, but it sounds like you’re talking about a barrel bolt?

I think that what you are describing is the same as a bed bolt, but using a conventional nut and washer instead of the usual bed bolt "nut".
This probably doesn't have a name, but i guess it would be okay. You might need to chisel a flat for the washer and nut to pull against.

More commonly known as either a bench bolt or handrail bolt

I did something like that on my bench build sort of based on a bed bolt but just using regular bolt with nut. Chisel a flat land for a washer.
Dont know if there is proper name for it but it works and that is what matters

The nut is called a cross dowel and the bolt is a furniture bolt They generally come in either 6mm or 1/4" thread size and bolt varies in length depending on the job.
