how much width required to hang a 720mm door?
Am looking to replace a window with a 'secondary' front door to give direct access to a small home business off the front verandah. The width of the gap in the brickwork is exactly 750mm. Is this enough space to hang a 720mm door with lock etc or should I get into some serious brick cutting and widen the space - if I do this, what would be the ideal width for a 720m and 820mm door?
Thanks heaps, MD.

Generally the opening width is 50mm greater than the door width.

if it"s brickveneer, you may be able to butt it to the bricks, giving yourself a bit more room to move???

In that case , the strength of the door frame will be assured by the timber opening studs . You may just scrape in if you scribe rebate the back it to a tight fit to the brickwork .

Have you thought about making the door narrower? According to:

You can generally cut up to 20mm from a panel door. Combined with the other suggestions that should make it a shoe in.Cheers, Glen

At the very minimum you add 42mm to the width of the door. (18mm +3mm+18mm+3mm)
That is assuming that the opening is perfectly plumb. I can assure you that it is not too common with pine frames.
You will generally find a 900mm opening for 820mm doors.

Yeah , thats true , but the framing is easily altered , easier than the brick opening .
If the door is opening inwards , flush with the inside wall lining , things should work out ok .
A photo would help , its' always good to have a look at the patient
