Window Sill Cover
Hi All,
Im renovating one of my living areas, which is an enclosed verandah. When the windows were installed (before I bought the house), it appears that they installed the windows directly onto the studs (no window frame) which have a rouch sawn finish. Im wondering if anyone can recommend a material to skim over the top? Something thin (hopefully less than 3 mm) that I can just cover the crappy finish with. I was originally thinking MDF but if the wondow is left open, water + MDF = problems...
Could anyone recommend a material?
Thanks.

It'd be easier to see what you're after it you could post a photo. Also you might get more response posting in the Renovators Forum, they even have a windows forum: Renovate Forums

By frame I guess you are refering to the reveal. These days windows come with either timber or MDF reveals. Your concerns are well founded. The other problem with MDF is edge fixing. So when nailing architraves you are fixing into the edge of the reveal. This limits the nails grip, requiring a longer nail and risking nail breakthrough on the face of the reveal.

If it needs to be less than 3mm thick and you are going to paint it I'd be thinking metal. Probably aluminium.

Go to Lysaghts and get a Colorbond one folded up and glue it on with silicone.
They are in Munibung Road in Cardiff.
