    Default WIP a 'thing'

Here's some photos of one project currently working on. It is a 'thing' - see if you can name it.

This is one steam bent part in Queensland black wattle in the drying former. It is tapered and the section varies from about 60x38 down to about 25x38. QBW seems to steam bend well.

Another couple of components are some black wattle blanks with haunched tenons and 45º shoulders and a jig with a registry block to help me cut the 45º mortises. In this case I elected to layout and cut the tenons first rather than the mortises because it was easier to transfer the layout from tenon to registry block to mortise than the other way round.

Still other components are these boomerang shapes in figured Red Ash. I chose some logs that had a curve that matched what I wanted.

Nearly lastly (some other components on which I haven't started work) are some bandsawn veneers a tad under 3mm that I'm bending (one is shown drying) to a 13mm radius using a combination of microwaving/hot pipe bending.

This is my singing hot pipe.

Lastly this is the bending strap I'm using for the veneers. It uses a folded polyester oven bag as the strap and works very well. Why an oven bag? Polyester is used as an alternative to metal strapping for freight since it has very low expansion under tension and the bag is heat resistant up to about 200ºC. The oven bag allows me to support wide veneers.

Leaf springs for a scale Model T Ford? Slow return boomerangs? Ecentric spacers for joining mismatched storm water drains? Formers for brickwork window lintels?
    .
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

It must be a good idea or a lot of trouble for nothing.
btw I used the pieces in your pics to draw what it might be, so far a blind deer.

    I'd say the latter.

Our coats end up on the dining chairs, several coats and several chairs. At least they aren't on the floor I suppose.
