It's not finished yet but it's moving along. Hope to have it finished over the long weekend. Note how the arms fold over and past the legs.

Curse you Superbunny
I swore not to make another library chair...
But looking at yours I just gotta do it.
Well designed and crafted.

The plans are in the main drawn up but need a little tweeking. I then plan to print them and check against my templates and the chair before I put them on DVD. This process may take a few weeks as I have to earn a living, I'll let you know when available.

would love to get a copy of your plans as well. Been searching all over for a set of plans for this type of chair

Looks really good SB. Well done.
I assume the back of the chair becomes the support for the ladder (back resting firmly on floor?) If you're standing on the ladder on the seat side of the hinge, what keeps the ladder from folding up on itself? Seems like you would have a lot of weight very close to or straddling that hinge point, and would then be depending on the grip of the legs and back against the floor.
Or have I missed something?

Yes, the back of the chair becomes in part the support for the ladder. As far as support while standing on the seat when in step mode, all I can say this chair/step has been out since circa 1786 and works perfectly, so without trying to be smart, I think its stood the test of time by now. The front section supports the first step and second step/seat but as your weight is transferred to the the back of the second step/seat the back of the chiar ie the folded back rest then takes up the load and support along with the front section. The hinges are quite sufficient but many people put in a piano hinge from bunnings instead. So far it is very stable. I'll be posting final finished pics very soon.

Look forward to the finished pics.
I guess the back part of the seat is enough to transfer weight to the back legs and keep it all stable. Ol' Ben was a pretty smart cookie.
