Chair/steps now finished
Well here it is all finished. I know it's not what you expected but my dad wanted it painted and after much argument I decided he's 70 years old and I don't want to fight about it, so it's painted against my wishes. The plans are moving along and will be finished soon. It is very comfortable to sit in and very stable. The hinges are no problem as the two seat halfs come together and support the middle step. It's painted in a brown metallic.Enjoy.

Yes, it turned out much better than I thought it would. I used car primer, two coats sanded, then car paint, three coats, then three coats of clear satin, all sprayed on. The colour was my dads choice and they had some end of line stock so it was cheap. It seems a very durable finish and doesn't scratch easily. It looks better in real life and my friends think it's fantastic.

Well done Superbunny
I agree with you about the finish but "each to his own".
Can't wait for the plans.

Hi SB,
What they all said. Beautiful thing. A lot of work there. Well done.
I reckon old people should get whatever makes them happy. I am going to use that phrase more often, it might pay off in years to come.
Thanks for the WIP.
Cheers

Fantastic! Love the metallic paint, that was a nice surprise when I viewed the pictures Very handy, useful and sturdy! I bet your Dad will think of you every time he uses the Steps to access his books safely.
cheers

Library Chair Plans Free
Well it's taken much longer than I planned but I have a set of plans available to any one who wants them. I'm typing up assembly instructions also but they are not ready yet. Most woodworkers could figure it out themselves anyhow, it's not rocket science. As I have taken so long to get my act together with work and one project after another, you know how it goes, I've decided these plans are free if you want a copy only for your own use. Save a copy as they are to disk or flash drive and have them printed as is at A0 size, there is a line that is 500 mm long at the top so you can check they are printed much to scale. It should cost you about $11 to get them printed. The plans are drawn up at a 1:1 scale, that is actual size, so all you do is make templates from the plans and off you go. I use Template plastic from Spotlight, it costs about $2.49 a sheet and you might need two or three sheets in total. Enjoy.
