WIP tool cabinet
Hello, This freestanding cabinet is 1200/850 & made of queensland maple with 15mm ply leaves & back. When the layout is finalised the ply will be covered with flocking and the maple finished & oiled. Hinges are solid brass. The modular shelving will allow for easy alteration as needed. The emply space on the rhs leaf is for Thumbsucker's chisels when they arrive.
The bottom is 900/900/750, maple with ply as the floor, back & gable lining with 19mm maple over, the top is 50 mm maple. The initial idea was to have two rows of 7 shallow drawers in the bottom but I am now thinking less & deeper drawers might be better. I have more hand tools that need storage now but eventually may need to store power tools. the drawer bottoms will be 8 mm ply to take weight. I also need to decide on the type of slides.
What do you think?
Regards, Bill.

I've always wondered, people build these wonderful tool cabinets but...
what happens when they buy another something and there is nowhere to put it!
Other than that it looks great.Dragonfly

Thanks for the comments everyone. I would appreciate input on the best type of slide to use and on drawer layout for the base.
Hi Dragonfly,
This cabinet is just a box. The shelving is a series of seperate units loose fitted & screwed into the carcass. The hanging rails are screwed to the ply leaves. The vertical weight bearing divisions on the back wall can be slid out & the spacing varied. Any section can be removed easily & quickly if alteration is required, because like you I always thought cabinets to be too inflexible when needs changed.
Regards, Bill

Nice
Are they turning chisels on the inside of the inner door? I'd have them closer to me lathe, but I like the idea af hanging them from the knobby bit at the end of the handleregards

Hi Bill, I like all the the adjustability you've built in and it looks good already. Be even nicer when finished. Is the top cabinet attached to the lower one? I would use Blum under-drawer mount slides.

Hi mic-d,
The top cabinet is sitting on a 20mm plinth on the top of the bottom cabinet and seems to be heavy (very) enough it doesnt tip or move even with both leaves & doors open at the same time. I intended to screw them together but probably wont unless there is a priblem.
Blum sliders appeal. Are they available in an industrial version? Bunnings?
Thanks, Bill
