Default Wood to compliment Blackheart Sassy

Hey all, I have been sitting on a slab of Blackheart Sassy for an entertaiment unit for a couple of years now and the time has come for it to be played with. This will be the top of the unit but I'm undecided on what wood to use for the cabinet. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

I don't want to make the whole unit in BH Sassy as I think it would be too busy but some plain cream stuff might be nice if I can get my hands on it. I'm in Canberra but could drive to Sydney to pick up wood if it suits my needs and the price is right.

Over to you guys... what wood would you use?

i reckon blackwood or ebony look good with sassy on fancy boxes,
but not sure a dark timber would work on a t.v unit.

    id go with more sassy.

Huon pine, but this may prove too expensive.

Silver Ash might be something else I'd consider if you wanted something upper end and not too pricey.

    Default Nice timber :-)

I think more sassy would look great just as long as the colour blended with the light coloured sassy on the main piece. I also think too much black would be somewhat overpowering...

    Get yourself some white Sassafras.

That's the Black Heart Sassafras without the black.

My preference would be to use a fairly plain grained light coloured timber.

A suggestion is Huon Pine. This also gives you two Tassie timbers.

I'd go with a light timber and use the sassy you've got for door panels etc

PS a very nice bit of wood IMHO

I would go something light red/orange/brown like in between the blue arrows below, like She-Oak, Myrtle or similar.

I personally hate Huon as a furniture timber, plain and boring, you may as well use plain Sassafras, and Blackwood and darker timbers would dominate to much. If you dont mind non Aussie timbers then Eastern Mahogany would look superb. Its a great contrast with Blackheart.

NB; Im a great believer in using color wheels for timber selection.

That black heart sassafras looks beautiful.
If money's no object then plain huon pine would be lovely. If you are looking for a less expensive option then maybe hoop pine would work well. Very plain and creamy - would help highlight the timber that you have already.
Golden cypress is also very nice but might be too knotty and look too busy next to the b-h sassafras.
The ordinary sassafras that I have seen looks too yellow to me but there could be lighter varieties.
Lucky you to have the b-h-s and the chance to use it.
    Cheers

Thanks for the advice so far team... I have sent a couple of emails asking about plain coloured Sassy but I'm not in a hurry so will keep looking around if nothing comes of them

That said, I have some rough sawn Myrtle around somewhere... might have to go looking for it tomorrow and see how it looks cleaned up

+1 for Tassie myrtle. Seems to work well with BH Sass. Blackwood can also look good, but is very variable and may be too dark for what you want.

Personally I'd go dark! Carry on the black heart bit. Ebonized Tassie Oak or something like that! Or you could have a thin strip of black around the black heart then White sassy around that!

Huon pine would be too yellow next to sassy.
    Myrtle too pink. :spew:
    Southern beech maybe?
