    Default Wood serving platter questions

G'day all, I am curious about wooden serving platters and thinking of making some, but first I wood like to know about which wood to use, and what to seal them with.

So, first up; I am curious if certain woods may leach taste, or even toxins/poison into a food that is served on a platter, and what woods are the safest to use?

I was thinking of using small blocks of different woods to make a pattern, so I guess I need to worry about the best glue as well. A glue that will handle heat, maybe even a dish washer?

I am also curious what to use to seal the platters; What is a "food safe" oil that will not go rancid?

Open to any and all suggestions/advice!!!

    Eddie

Ubeaut our forum sponsor has a food safe oil which I have used and am very pleased with the finish on chopping boards I have knocked together. Titebond have a couple of different glues although don't think any are "dishwasher" safe. As with all timber a dishwasher is the harshest environment. Wooden spoons and other single wood items will last many a dishwasher trip but laminated timbers will slowly lose their laminate. I am no expert when it comes to wood choices but have read on this forum before about avoiding sappy woods. I figure timber like cypress pine would possibly taint food but I don't know for sure.
