Thanks everyone for the tips. Is the Launceston timber gallery called 1842? I found that online and seems like it could be it.

As Ray says - not Cadburys. Don't even bother going there. They no longer do a tour, just a video presentation in the onsite shop.
You can buy chocolate there but not any cheaper than your local supermarket.
Lots of much more interesting manufacturers:
Federation Chocolate down on the Tasman Peninsula.
House of Anvers
No wood content, unless they've had a really bad day at the factory.Geoff

If you get a chance, have a look at the Wooden Boat Centre at Franklin.

I bought home a couple of pieces of timber out of their 'offcuts for sale' bin.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I'm visiting Tassie in May. Might be a bit chilly but fun none-the-less.

As others have said plenty great woodworking things to see but the best is the wood itself. Huon, sassy, and myrtle look great and work great also. Next time I go I intend taking a ute and loading up.

Absolutely John! Most of my favourite timbers are the Tassies - love 'em!
Earlier this week I was looking at the price difference between a car, and a car and trailer on the Spirit of Tasmania - I'm not sure if it was the particular random trip I selected or if it's normal, but taking a 6ft box trailer was about $500 more!!! At that price I could be better off having timber delivered and consolidated at my cousin's place in Hobart, then shipped to Sydney.
When we went there my Commodore sedan was absolutely chokers with timber.
Nathan.

Hi folks, how's that for luck I'm also heading to Tassie next month with the missus and we will be there for 4 weeks. Good thing I checked in with what's going on in this forum.

Thanks for all the tips everybody! Waiting in launceston airport now on my way home. For anyone else doing the east coast trip from Hobart to Launceston, my favorites (wood stuff) were:
Salamanca markets, Hobart. Lots of pens, bowls and boxes.
Island Specialty Timbers, Geeveston. They cut me a couple of special orders of Sassafras 12" bowl blanks right there on the spot and waxed them.
Timber boat building place, Franklin.
WW1 chainsaw carvings, Ledgerwood. Amazing tribute to our nation's heroes, and what a save after the threat of the trees being removed!
1814 in launceston - fine woodwork furniture and small items. Very affordable prices for a gallery.
Design Gallery in Launceston. Not huge but brilliant designs and very helpful staff.
