    Default woodworking machinery

Just wondering if anybody can help out here and give me a few ideas. I'm moving to the country soon and will have a decent size workshop, and i am wondering what machines to get. I dont have a big budget and dont want to waste it. I am looking at a table saw (and in future a dado blade), a thicknesser and jointer or combination of, and a decent d/c, pref 3 hp. I would be intrested in any pointers or ideas on decent machines to purchase
    Thanks

    Woodster,

IMHO you can't go wrong with a router as well, wether it's a plunge router or a router table.

    Allows so much flexibility.

    Woodster,

Kinda hard question to answer without knowing your budget. Obviously there's lots of discussions on the various machines here to refer to.

If I had say $6k to spend, here's what I'd get:

    Jet JTAS-10XL 10" Cabinet Saw $2,750
    Jet JJ-6CSX 6" Jointer $935
    Jet JWP-12DX 12" Thicknesser $850 or Dewalt 12" Thicknesser $950
    Jet DC1100-CK 2Hp Cartridge filter DC $1,000
    Jet AFS1000B Air Cleaner $450

I have the Dewalt thicknesser, the Jet DC and the Jet air cleaner and I'm very happy with them. The table saw & jointer are on my wishlist.

Those are all list prices. Obviously with the way the dollar has been going, especially if you can buy in a batch, you should be able to negotiate a really nice deal.

Get a DC with a pleated cartridge filter if you can afford it - makes a huge difference. I think 3hp is overkill for a one man shop, 2hp on one machine at a time, assuming a reasonable machine with a decent filter, works just fine. The air cleaner as well and you're set up well.

There are a bunch of choices for cheaper brands out there of course - again it comes back to budget.

Take a little drive down ipswich road take the springfield exit & visit gregory machinery, then get back on the highway & head for hare & forbes at kessels road, head along logan road & check out carbatec at coorparoo.

If you spend more time driving than lookin at those places i'll be most surprised.

Speak to the staff at these places and judge for yourself who will give you the best service.

    cheers

If you're budget doesnt quite extend to $6k, then take a look at these:

    TSC-10HB 3HP 10" Tablesaw - $1495
    PT-260 Combo Planer/Thicknesser - Around $1000
Generic 2HP D/C with GPW Pleated Cannister Filter for around $550

As for Dado Blades, I ordered 2 sets of Freud's SD208 8" set from Amazon for US$69.99 each. My boss in the USA shipped them to me for free, so scored them for AUD$100 each! Another forum member has a big smile on his face too right now!
How much wood could the woodchuck chuck if the woodchuck could chuck wood?
