Default What do you use to write on your timber

I have been collecting timber for a while but I am not very good at identifying the different species, especially if it is rough sawn.
I have been writing the species, where I know it, in old-fashioned chalk but it rubs off very easily
Is there a preferred marker type to use that wont bleed into a planed surface

Yep - lumber crayon. It's about an inch thick.

I use acrylic white paint but crayon is probably the go.

I use a white piant pen. Like the ones used at car wreckers. Does not come off or go deep in the timber.
