I settled on the Hafco BP - 300 at the show price of $ 489 from Herless Machinery.

I have been looking at bandsaws for a while and most of them are too tall for where it is to go in my workshop. As it is under the house I have limited headroom and it needs to be bolted to the bench in the shop. Most of the 14" models have the motor underneath rather than at the back of the saw and thus too tall.

Also the price was right and in stock and Herless Machinery in Melbourne is a great place to deal with. Never any hassles with them. Bought at the show and picked up from their warehouse this afternoon. Now the removal of the old one and putting in the new.

I know others have the BP - 16A but that one was too tall.

Boy I must be thick!!!! Arrived at the cafe as arranged by all at 10-15 AM. Waited for an hour to introduce myself to at least one tinfoil hat. Won't get suckered again. Next time , spend that extra time looking at the great tools.

    D'oh!!!!
Now I'm kicking myself! I was telling SWMBO last night about how good I'd been at the show and that I refrained from buying that set of box cutting router bits from Roger Gifkins. She wouldn't have had a problem with if I did so now I'm sitting here wondering if I should go back and buy them? It's a fair trip though so i might just have to suffer
Damn, I hate it when you've been a good boy for absolutely nothing!!

Arrived a bit late and only saw JOhn H, , Jim Carrol, Neil and Christopha, not a foil hat in sight.
Bought a dado set from Northwood (stand 152) and a new mitre saw blade just to try, the blade works well and is very smooth (put in on lastnight).
They also are offering their Jet saw, Grrrrripper (sp), dado and saw blade set for just over 1K tomorrow, someone may get a bargain.
Obviously they set it up there and have no intention of carting it home.
Pity I just bought a new saw.
Saw all the Mujinfangs and came to the conclusion that the Bombay Mafia may be ripping us off a little after buying a heap from Pauls in Sydney.
Also got a rotary sander off Neil but I can't figure out where the batteries go
Only ***** I had was trying to find a damned parking spot under the venue, took near on half an hour and I had to pay a parking fee while searching.

went along from 10 - enjoyed chatting to other woodies - prices were nothing to write home about, except for one item I thought was an incredible bargain SO LONG AS it didnt fly apart and was accurate (or could be made so, relatively easily)

It was a double bar, 250MM sliding compound mitre saw for $349! We looked it over and felt it was pretty sturdy and all ..... as we both have one, didnt go ahead but with a 30 month warranty felt it would be a most worthwhile purchase.

Didnt see any other members, but have to admit wouldnt know 99% of you guys/gals if I fell over you ..... always leaves me a bit sad as, while I love this forum, would really enjoy meeting folks in person..... no biggie and certainly not practical, but .... you know

Thanks for that, I have one on the wish list, and whilst I haven't actually seen one, the BP 16A seems to get a good rap. Anything I've gad to do with Hafco stuff has been good. It always seems good value to me, so I have a leaning that way. SWMBO has a leaning towards jewellery though.

    Hello all

I spent the day there yesterday and had great fun as usual. Good to see hundreds of blokes there who looked just like me - past the half century, grey beard, hemispherical side profile etc.

I too bought a Hafco BP-300 from Herless. From recent research around the brands/sizes/price ranges this seemed the best fit for me as a basic woodworker and will just squeeze into the workshop. Herless price was also v good at the show.

Also got a Gifkins jig - now lots of little boxes to come (remember that song in the 70's ?).

    cheers

I think your next conversation should go along the following line : Dear, I think I can make some lovely wooden jewellery pieces for you with a bandsaw, I think I get one.
Then say 6 weeks later : Dear, I am so sorry but unfortunately making jewellery on the bandsaw didn't work.
So sad but you've got the bandsaw.

Spent the day altering the bench, rerouting the dust collection pipe, getting ready for assembling the bandsaw. Will need to make a small door in the back of the wall to allow resawing of longer timber. I'll post some photos when finished.

I also went to the WWW in the afternoon and came home with a few goodies, I was looking around but didnt see any people with foils hats, Had a great time.
For those people that are waiting for TSC-10HB from Carbatec. I was told that there are two containers due here around the 24th of October. The TSC-10HB that's on display at the show was brought down from QLD.

Best bit of the show is coming home to play with all the new toys!
    Regards

    Tony,

Sorry you thought you wasted your time but we were there and two of us had foil hats. We weren't wearing them 100% of the time when we were at the caf but we did put them on for short periods of time.

Were you wearing yours? It is possible your mind was partially erased by aliens because you weren't wearing one and you have forgotten seeing us. Al and I clearly remember being at the caf with Sturdee, Grunt and Geoff Allen.

I think most people thought they would look foolish wearing the foil hats and they would have been correct thinking that way. We did look like fools (and we probably were!) but what the heck, you only live once and it was a bit of harmless fun.

Al even posted a pic of me wearing his foil hat on another thread - check it out.

    Talking Bargains :-)

Been to my first WWW show today... it was like I died and went to heaven... The only annoying thing I (like most) have a tiny little shed cramped with all bits and pieces and it severely limits my purchasing (a little to difficult to fit the triton 2000, the router table a drill press and a scroll saw + mower in a 3x3 shed).

Nevertheless got myself a bargain. GMC Thicknesser $299! This is exactly the same as the Ryobi (usually $349) and sells at Bunnings for $359...

Now off to pull the shed down and get ready for next years show ))))

we melbourners should get together and help build each other's sheds

Glad your first "blooding" at the WWW show went well - look forward to seeing some of your work!
