    Smile New Zealand Woodworkers

    Gidday Cobbers

Firstly I admit Aussies are winners at League, Cricket, Tiddley winks, Swimming and Woodworking Forums.

I can't find any/much activity on the net regarding NZ woodworkers..

These are a couple of links

    http://www.centre-for-fine-woodworking.co.nz/

Which is a Workwork school in Nelson and

http://www.marcouplanes.co.nz/index.php/home ... A Guy who makes planes as an art form...

but I can't find anyone to tell me where to get a decent sharpening stone, new plane blade, dovetail saw, veneers, importing from the Great Southern Continent maybe the only option??

Where are you Kiwis?? Or am I whistling in the dark.

    Hi Paul,

    I've had similar problems !!!

The guys that I have found in Auckland are

Carbatec - found them very friendly and knowledgeable !
WR Jacks - They stock Sheppach but not 100% sure of their other brands
Chevpac - Have found their customer service wanting - but they do stock JET
ToolBarn (Panmure) - Sell 2nd hand tools that they have restored - be careful though they sometimes don't restore them too well.

As for timber I have purchased timber from Rosenfed Kidson - they seem to import all exotics, and Timspec - have yet to use them.

I have also been ordering stuff from Lie-Nielsen in Australia and found them very good, and Bridge City in the states. Can't seem to order from Amazon, since they don't seem to ship to us.

Am still trying to find someone who stocks Porter Cable routers (have my eye on a 7518 model), or good sharpening stones - Shaptons. So if anyone knows, let us know.

    Hope this helps

    Hi Jas,
Lie Nielsen in Australia sell Shaptons. I've got mine from them both via woodwprk shows and postal delivery.

    Thanks Fletty,

Have noticed they stock the glassstones. Does anyone know if they are better or worse than the waterstone, as per shaptons website (I think they are referred to as professionals?)

I've been trying to see if I can buy them here. I'm beginning to believe that they are not stocked here, so will have to approach Lie-Nielsen.

    Cheers

Google led me to this page: https://www.bosch.co.nz/our-company/...n-new-zealand/ which lists the Bosch locations in NZ. At the bottom of the page is a contact link, you can reach out to them to figure out which one might be their distribution centre (not sure what you're looking for with the distribution centre, as I'd imagine this is dispatch to dealers of product, but you can certainly try)

What other dimensions are on your hardwood board that's 5cm thick? Assuming they're reasonable dimensions, you'd put this through a band saw with a resaw blade on it, assuming you want to end up with two boards half as thick (less a wee bit that the blade will turn into sawdust).
