Default Does anyone know anything about japanese metalworking cold chisels?

    Howdy everyone,
For those who don't know i've decided to try my hand at building my own funa dansu/ships chest after having spent the last few years restoring originals along with all sorts of other chests for other people.
I've chosen a design somewhere along the lines of these two chests, though much closer to the second (and yes, i do know its a monstrous job and i'm probably insane for actually wanting to do it)

In keeping with tradition i've decided to use fairly thick 1.5-2mm thick steel sheet for all the metalwork (salvaged from the rusted out hulk of a 1950's buick + a sheet of corten steel from the scrap metal yard).
Thus far I've been getting by alright, albeit it painfully slowly with the help of a hell of a lot of drilling and punching out the waste between holes followed by huge amounts of filing.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any info or knowledge towards traditional japanese metalworking cold chisels for cutting through thick iron sheeting? mainly what are they actually called in japanese, any sources for where to get them, or any information on how to make them? cause at the moment this little project is incredibly hard going

    Japanese chisels are called Tagane.
This is the place to ask just about anything to do with Japanese metalwork:

It really is! Think I'll sign up so I can lurk, but ask questions when I need to.
