House plans
Hi all,
Am currently drawing up plans to submit to council for an extension to our house in NZ. Is there a easy to use software package that's quick to master for drawing up floor plans, elevations etc in 1:50 and 1:100 scale.
Looked at sketch up but that seems to be a 3D package and I already have Viewbuild pro which is great for rough walk through and visualization.
Finding pencil and paper a bit drawn out time wise and especially gets messy if you do a muck up cause its then straight back to the drawing board.
Thanks Malc

Have you looked at the "HouseBuilder" plugin? You can download it from this thread on the SketchUcation forum.

Download a trial copy of Revit architechure from Autodesk.com and do the tutorial. I have just started working as a draftsman and use this as principle program. It will need a fairly good computer to run it, but for a basic extension, a p4 3ghz with a reasonable ram and video it will work.
It will build the walls as you draw the floor plan and will also draw in the roof at the end.
Oh and you will need a fast broadband connection to download as it is 500mb download.

Hi Malc,
Just check that the Revit trial will let you print out or that it wont print a Revit watermark all over your drawings. if you have a slow internet connection try contacting Autodesk direct and getting a demo disk sent out. Don't know about NZ, but here in OZ you need to be a licensed Building Designer or qualified Architect to submit plans to council. Also try Archicad & Datacad. Datacad may be easier to learn but check the printing options.
Cheers,
Paul

The trial copy of Revit is fully functional and after the 30 days just becomes a veiwer of drawings. I am pretty sure that there are no water marks. I think that Autodesk only water marks educational copies.
