    Smile Sketchup Beginner

    Hi all,
I am new to the world of cad but would like to get a copy of Sketchup.
Could someone advise the best place to buy this package or even get a free copy if such is available and an
idea of price would be helpful.
I would like to be able to make 3D models and produce scale drgs. for cabinet work, jigs etc in my home shop.

    Hope you can assist.

    Cheers, John

Download SketchUp | SketchUp select "for personal use" in the options, if it is fror personal use. If not you need to pay.

If you're looking for serious CAD then you might want to consider Fusion360 from Autodesk.
Also free (for non commercial use) but is cloud based so you need an Internet connection to use it.

Thanks Code4pay and Snowyskiesau for your prompt and helpful info- much appreciated. I have downloaded Sketchup Make and look forward to teaching myself how to use it.

    John,
"Sketch-up Make" is good, there is plenty to learn, and you will . Get some help if you can, you'll get to be where you want to be, sooner! Ross

In a previous thread I asked questions re Make vs Pro.
My employer has a contract with Linda.com (training) and I just checked and they have training tutorials on Sketchup with lots of exercises to follow and do. Learning Make covers the majority of Pro so they say.

HMMM there's going to be some serious computer time of the next few nights

If you're using SketchUp for woodwork, or even if you aren't, you might have a look at Fine Woodworking Magazine's blog called Design. Click. Build. Also, there's a good beginner's video offered as a download or DVD. And if you're looking for something a little more advanced, there's SketchUp Guide for Woodworkers: Advanced Techniques.
"Folks say that if you listen real close at the height of the full moon, when the wind is blowin' off Nantucket Sound from the nor' east and the dogs are howlin' for no earthly reason, you can hear the awful screams of the crew of the "Ellie May," a sturdy whaler Captained by John McTavish; for it was on just such a night when the rum was flowin' and, Davey Jones be damned, big John brought his men on deck for the first of several screaming contests."
